Developed by the Gracie family, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is a martial art that uses leverage, technique, and strategy to defend against a bigger and stronger opponent. BJJ is one of the most effective martial arts for a multitude of reasons. Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling art that translates to “gentile art” because, unlike striking arts, it can practiced at high intensity without inflicting damage to your sparring partner.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is designed to enable a smaller weaker person to defeat larger, stronger, and more athletic opponents by using leverage, body mechanics, and technique. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training typically involves wearing the traditional uniform known as the “Gi”. The Gi is used to control your opponent and is instrumental in helping develop fundamental skills for new practitioners.
