The Martial Arts Community – Working together to achieve individual goals

Everyone who goes into a gym has goals and objectives that they are looking to achieve. Everyone has a why!!!! A personal reason why they are devoting their time and effort to train.

Talking to members, guests, and students for over two decades, I have realized that there are so many different reasons “why” people train in Jiu-Jitsu and the martial arts. I have heard reasons from weight loss to total life change to learning how to defend themselves.

Parents start their children in martial arts for a multitude of reasons as well. Some are looking for discipline, some are concerned about the ever-present bully on the playground, and some parents just want to instill a healthy lifestyle in their kids at a young age.

While the reason why we train is very important, how we execute that training within our academies and gyms is want matters most. A Mixed Martial Arts or Jiu-Jitsu academy is one of the best places to change your life for the better. The most important variable, the one that makes all the difference in the world when it comes to achieving goals of any type, is your COMMUNITY and the people that support you along your journey!

The successful entrepreneur/philanthropist Jim Rohn has stated that “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.“ Coming into an academy and spending time with coaches, instructors, and fellow students at a Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing or MMA gym puts you in the presence of those that have a similar mindset. While the goals of your training partner and reason why your fellow students are there may be vastly different than yours, one thing remains the same – we are all here to grow and help our teammates do the same.

You are willing to spend an hour or more of your day at the academy because every time you step on the mats you are learning, moving your body, cultivating your mind, and enhancing all aspects of your life. The community, comprised of your Jiu-Jitsu professors, your Muay Thai instructors, your Boxing coaches and all your fellow students and training partners, are there to help you grow.

Keep this in mind every time you are on the mats! As a community, we are here to help each other learn, grow, and win in the martial arts, fitness, and life!
