Mixed Martial Arts or MMA as it is often called is exactly that… Any and all aspects of martial arts mixed together. Originally promoted as a competition with the intention of finding the most effective martial arts for real unarmed combat situations, competitors were pitted against one another with few rules. Later, fighters employed multiple martial arts into their style whilst promoters were pressured to adopt additional rules aimed at increasing safety for competitors, to meet compliance and regulation and to promote mainstream acceptance of the sport.
At Ground Control MMA classes are used to help the student that has been training in all different martial arts at the academy combine them together for practical or competition training. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Western Boxing and Wrestling are all very different arts. Bringing them together and developing an effective game is an art in and of itself. Students must first understand the individual martial arts before entering this class.
