Fernando Reis BJJ Seminar

Fernando Reis BJJ Seminar

Fernando Reis Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Seminar and Camp

On September 25th, Ground Control Columbia hosted Fernando Reis’ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu seminar.  Overall, this was an excellent seminar.  Fernando did a great job demonstrating and breaking down his techniques and making his rounds to each participant.  For any of you who missed this Jiu Jitsu seminar, he will be in town training with us until Oct 7.  Now is your chance to learn anything you may have missed.  There was a great turn out at the jiu jitsu seminar especially from our own students.  Ground Control Columbia made up the majority of the attendees, and we also saw a few new faces from other local academies.

For two weeks following the Fernando Reis’ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu seminar, Ground Control hosted a Charlotte Open Training Camp.  This 2-week camp is a can’t-miss, for anyone who is looking to compete at the Charlotte Open on October 8th. We highly recommend that all of our students show up and help the team prepare as they go down to Charlotte and try to win the team trophy.

Ground Control has students and instructors going out to compete at the NoGi Pan Ams in New York, NY and at the Charlotte Open in Concord, NC. We have over 16 people from Ground Control Columbia competing at the Charlotte Open.

Training with The Maryland Army National Guard

On March 22nd, Ground Control Columbia’s Joao Paulo and Bryce Garipay, along with Ground Control Owings Mills Head Instructor Ryan Makin, trained with the Maryland Army National Guard 29th Military Police Company at Camp Fretterd. The training session ran from 10:00am to 3:00pm where over the course of the day the company was taught some basic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, and Self Defense tactics that they can use in conjunction with the skills the already know. They finished the day with some live grappling, where they got to show off their new found techniques on our instructors and finally on each other.

We would like to extend a very special thank you for making all of this possible to Sergeant, B.J. Randall (GCC Member) and allowing us access to their facility and work with the great Men and Women of the 29th Military Police Company. Lastly, the Ground Control family would like to thank the Maryland National Guard’s 29th Military Police Company for allowing us the opportunity to train with them for the day, this was definitely an experience that we will not soon forget and we wish all of them the best of luck. The Company is preparing to go to Cuba this upcoming August to guard the detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

9 Reasons to Join Ground Control

Ground Control Tiger 2clr (2015)

9 Reasons to Join

1. Ground Control Jiu-Jitsu is a Truly Exciting Way to Get Fit
If just going to a gym has become boring it may be time to try something new. One can only run on a treadmill listening to audio books and music so many times before loosing motivation. Because of the high level of concentration that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu requires, boredom will not be a problem. The Ground Control student will learn to defend them-selves while burning more calories than spending hours running on the treadmill and getting board.

2. The Ground Control Team is Committed to Your Progress
Join a gym and you are a number… Join Ground Control and you a teammate! You are not just another member or another person that is there to workout. The team at Ground Control makes the academy what it is, and you too will soon be part of that team. From the people that greet you as you walk in the door, to the instructors and students on the mats with you, everyone wants to see you learn, progress and reach your goals. The friendly, challenging and demanding culture instilled by the academy’s staff, professors, and other teammates will inspire and motivate you to achieve more than you thought possible in martial arts and fitness.

3. Ground Control is The Most Well Known Academy in The Area For a Reason – It is The Best… Period!
Structured classes and state of the art facilities are a staple at Ground Control Schools. The instructors adhere to a standardized curriculum and class structure. Classes begin on time and the instructors are experts in their chosen art. Students know up front what to expect from each class and from their fellow students. At Ground Control consistency and structure are as important as innovation and creativity. This fosters a learning and training environment that few academies can compete with.

4. Ground Control will Change Your Life!
When you join our team you are part of something. You don’t just come here to take classes and get in shape you become part of a community. A community brought together by the philosophy and ideals of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle. It is not uncommon for fathers to be training with their sons, or for mothers to be on the mats taking classes and sharing knowledge with their children. Plenty of couples join together some training in the same program and some in different programs.

5. Ground Control Jiu-Jitsu Techniques are Applicable in Real-Life Situations
Being a member of Ground Control is more than learning how to defend yourself…. By mastering the principles that bring success on the mats you master principals that will bring success to your life. Applying these principles off the mats will bring harmony and balance to your life and help you reach your true potential.

6. At Ground Control We Train Like We are Family, and We Are for The Entire Family
One of the most important aspects of Ground Control is how we are designed for the entire family. Children can begin Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as young as 4 years old and continue their entire life. At Ground Control we don’t want you to drop your children off and go home or sit on the sidelines, we want you to take a class while they are taking a class. We want you to workout with a trainer while they are on the mats. Moms are taking the women’s classes while kids are learning self-defense and confidence. As your children see you living a healthy and disciplined lifestyle they will want to continue living that way as well. Not to mention, when your kids are talking about what they learned in practice, you will be able to talk intelligently with them about what they are learning….

7. Ground Control is the Cleanest Academy in The Business
At Ground Control cleanliness is a top priority. Our standard for hygiene and cleanliness far exceed everyone’s expectations. We maintain very strict standards for students and employees alike. Students must follow a strict hygiene policy. Instructors must make sure that the mats are cleaned after every class with a specially designed cleaning agent that neutralizes bacteria, fungus and odors without detriment to the equipment. Bathrooms and equipment are checked and cleaned every hour on the hour. We worry about hygiene so that members don’t have to!

8. Ground Control is Safe and Friendly
The safety of the team is the top priority of all employees and instructors. Instructors monitor training sessions and CPR-trained personal is on staff. Keeping healthy is the most important part of training.

9. Real Black Belt Instruction
Trace the roots of our black belts back… you will see that they were trained by, and have trained with, the best that have ever lived…. Period!
